Why Costa Rica has become the nation with the fastest growing number of foreign millionaires in Latin America and what consequences this has for the country.
According to a ranking of high-net-worth migration, Costa Rica is the Latin American country with the largest increase in the number of millionaires from abroad over the last ten years. According to the "Private Wealth Migration 2025" report, produced by the consulting firm Henley & Partners, the country ranked sixth globally due to a 76% increase in the growth rate over the last ten years. The London-based consulting firm, which sells passport and residency permit programs in more than 40 countries, estimates that around 8,400 wealthy foreigners have moved to the Central American nation and predicts that approximately 350 more will arrive this year. According to the assessment, a millionaire is someone whose net worth exceeds $1 million in "liquid assets" (properties and securities that can be easily converted into cash, such as stocks, bank funds, certificates of deposit, or bonds), not including other assets such as real estate.
