What does "caviar left" mean, how does it affect Latin American politics, and why is it looked down upon by the far left?

Imagine you're walking down the street and suddenly someone shouts at you and points. "You're a caviar!" What would your reaction be? If you're not from Peru, the term might sound strange. But if you are from Peru, you'd immediately know it's an insult. However, the concept goes beyond being a simple offense, and its use has crossed Peru's borders. Dr. Eduardo Dargent, an academic and political scientist, discusses all of this in his latest book, "Caviar: From the 'Left-Wing Snob' to the 'Progressive Multiverse,'" in which he examines what it means to be a "left-wing caviar" and the difficulties faced by those who, from a privileged position in society, fight for progressive ideas. Dargent is part of that world and is not detached from it. "It's impossible to deny it," "Besides, the most caviar thing is to refuse to be one," he adds, laughing.
