This Tuesday, Peru's Congress will convene to address the censure motion against José Jerí. What could happen to the president?
Although the ongoing political crisis in Peru seemed to have given the Andean nation a respite just before its April elections, recent scandals involving the interim president, the right-wing José Jerí, raise the possibility that he could be impeached this Tuesday. Consequently, there would be a new leader: the eighth since this president-crushing spree began 10 years ago. Jerí assumed the presidency just four months ago, when former president Dina Boluarte was impeached by the legislature and he was serving as president of Congress. In the first months of his term, this legislator, who had previously remained relatively unknown, received a positive reception from Peruvians because he prioritized the fight against crime.
