The "Supercows" That Made Brazil the World's Largest Beef Exporter
In early May, in the heart of Brazil's agricultural interior, in the city of Uberaba in southeastern Brazil, nearly 2,500 cows and around 400,000 people gathered for a vibrant celebration of Brazilian cattle culture. ExpoZebu is an annual event focused on the "supercow" Zebu, a genetically advanced breed of cattle valued for its meat and controlling livestock production in Brazil, a nation that exported 2.9 million tons of beef in 2024. "Zebu are large. They are tall, with some reaching a height of 1.80 meters; they have large horns, white skin, and a hump on their neck."
