The National Statistics Institute (INE) has confirmed that, due to electricity and transportation costs, October's inflation was the highest so far this year in Chile.

Prices rose 3.1% year-on-year, continuing a five-month streak of increases. Prices haven't fallen, so there were no surprises. The INE announced the final figure this Friday: inflation in October rose 3.1%, representing the highest increase of the year and one-tenth of a percentage point higher than in September. The increase is largely due to higher electricity prices, international flights, and train fares. It also includes significant price hikes for eggs (as a consequence of the avian flu outbreak) and waste collection fees following the approval of the new garbage tax.
