SUPPOSED Cuneiform Writing at Lake Titicaca - Fuente Magna
Cuneiform Writing at Lake Titicaca - Fuente Magna Summary of the Discovery The "Fuente Magna" is a quartzite ceremonial vessel discovered between 1950 and 1960 by a farmer near Lake Titicaca, Bolivia. The vessel bears interior inscriptions that were initially interpreted as Sumerian cuneiform writing. Artifact Characteristics Material: Brown quartzite Location: Near Lake Titicaca, Tiahuanaco Approximate Dating: 3500 BC (according to some sources) Context: No precise archaeological context Scientific Analysis After consultations with archaeologists from the United States, Germany, and Israel, especially Swiss researcher James Ritter (a specialist in Sumerian culture), it was concluded that the inscriptions do NOT correspond to authentic cuneiform writing. The scientific community believes that the markings do not represent a legitimate Mesopotamian writing system, and are probably local decorative elements or later inscriptions with no real Sumerian cultural connection.
