This sector contributes 8.5% of the Gross Domestic Product and represents 63.9% of exports, with more than 130 underground mines currently operating. Peru's rich geological diversity allows this metal-rich country to consistently remain among the world's top 10 producers of copper, silver, gold, lead, zinc, tin, and molybdenum. Oil Unlike its strong performance in mining, Peru has a modest role in the international oil sector. The country has 682,681,000 barrels of proven oil reserves, ranking 42nd in the world, representing about 0.0% of total global reserves.
