NASA Space Project in Piura, Peru Project Description The space project in Piura is not a "NASA base" as such, but rather a spaceport to be built at El Pato Air Base in the town of Talara (Piura), as part of a collaboration between Peru and the United States. Location and Features El Pato Air Base is located at coordinates 4°32′59′S 81°13′26′W, in the city of Talara, Piura. The facility will have an estimated investment of 1 billion soles and will cover 1,000 km² and will be located in the uninhabited area of Paita. International Cooperation This project is part of the strengthening of cooperation between Peru and NASA. In 1975 and 1983, NASA conducted joint sounding rocket campaigns from CONIDA's Punta Lobos base to study the interactions between Earth's atmosphere and the Sun. The current project is part of the Artemis agreement with NASA, positioning Peru as a participant in South American space exploration.
