Migrants attempt to leave Chile before the second round of elections, while Peru reinforces its borders.

In the northern border region of Arica and Parinacota, dozens of migrants with tents and suitcases have gathered to travel from the Chacalluta border crossing (in Chile) to the Santa Rosa border crossing (in Peru). Their goal? To leave the South American country before the start of the presidential runoff, in which right-wing extremist José Antonio Kast will face Jeannette Jara, a former member of the Communist Party who has the full support of the left. This election will take place on December 14. “I am informing illegal immigrants in Chile that they have 103 days to leave our nation voluntarily. If they ever wish to enter Chile legally, they cannot have any outstanding legal issues in our country,” warned Republican Party presidential candidate José Antonio Kast this Friday via his social media account. “If they do not leave of their own accord, they will have to leave after I assume the presidency with everything they own and everything they are wearing.”
