Louvre Museum Robbery: In just seven minutes, criminals steal jewels belonging to Empress Eugenie and Napoleon.
The most visited museum in the world had to close completely due to the robbery. French authorities consider the stolen pieces to have an incalculable heritage value. This Sunday morning, the Louvre Museum in Paris suffered a daring robbery: a gang of criminals stole nine jewels that were part of the Napoleon and Eugenie collection. The attack, carried out with speed and precision, forced the complete closure of the museum, which receives nearly nine million visitors annually. According to Laurent Nuñez, France's Minister of the Interior, the criminals entered the building "from outside, using a crane mounted on a truck" and remained inside the museum for only seven minutes. During that time, they targeted two display cases in the Galerie d'Apollon—one of the most representative areas of the museum—where they stole tiaras, brooches, and necklaces of great historical value. The group reportedly consisted of three or four individuals who entered the building on motorcycles, following the banks of the Seine, an area that was being renovated at the time, making their entry easier. The attackers fled in an unknown direction after breaking the windows with power tools. Hours later, one of the stolen pieces—presumably Empress Eugénie's crown—was found outside the museum in a deteriorated state.
