Jane Goodall, the woman who revolutionized our perception of chimpanzees and ourselves, dies.
Jane Goodall, the famous British primatologist and conservationist whose work with chimpanzees in Tanzania changed our perception of animals and ourselves, died this Wednesday at the age of 91. Her institute announced in a statement distributed on social media that Goodall "died of natural causes" while in California, as part of a lecture tour in the United States. The Jane Goodall Institute reported that "Dr. Goodall, an ethologist, made discoveries that transformed science and tirelessly championed the restoration and protection of our natural world." Goodall immersed herself in the world of the chimpanzees she observed and took actions such as naming them instead of assigning them numbers, thereby challenging traditional scientific norms.
