Israel calls up 60,000 reservists for ground offensive.

Ahead of a planned ground offensive to seize and occupy all of Gaza City, A military official said the reservists would be called up in September and that most of the forces mobilized for the offensive would be actively on duty. They noted that, as part of the preparations for the plan approved Tuesday by Defense Minister Israel Katz and to be submitted to the security cabinet later this week, troops were already operating in the Jabalia and Zeitoun areas. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian residents of Gaza City are expected to be instructed to evacuate and move to shelters in southern Gaza. Several of Israel's allies have condemned the plan, while the UN and non-governmental organizations have warned that another offensive and further mass displacement will have a "terrible humanitarian impact" after 22 months of war.
