How to Travel Without Fear of Roaming Charges

Turn off roaming by default. It sounds basic, but a surprising number of people forget. Use a travel SIM or eSIM. Get one before you leave or at the airport; it's usually cheaper than roaming from your local provider. Download maps for offline use. Google Maps lets you save areas to avoid using your data for navigation. Have faith in messaging apps. Messenger, WhatsApp, and Viber keep you connected without you having to pay for texts. Use Wi-Fi wisely. It's great for large downloads, but I don't use public Wi-Fi for work or banking. When traveling, the cost of roaming was only a small fraction of what my local carrier wanted.
