Europe has reached an agreement to phase out imports of Russian natural gas by the end of 2027.

As part of its efforts to reduce the European bloc's energy dependence over the past decade, the European Union agreed to phase out imports of Russian natural gas by the end of 2027. In June, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the European Commission, along with representatives from the European Parliament and the EU, reached an agreement to end imports from the EU's former main gas supplier. Under the agreement, the European Union will cease importing Russian gas indefinitely and will proceed with the phase-out of Russian crude oil. Pipeline gas imports will end by the end of September 2027, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports will end by the end of 2026.
