Eight individuals sentenced to life imprisonment by Russia for attacking a key bridge to Crimea.
Eight individuals were convicted of terrorism on Thursday for an attack on a bridge connecting Crimea to Russia, a vital supply route for the Kremlin's troops in the conflict with Ukraine, which Moscow illegally annexed. All the defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment by the court. The bridge was attacked in October 2022 when a truck bomb detonated two of its sections; the incident required months for repairs. The truck driver and four people inside a nearby vehicle were killed in the explosion. Moscow condemned the attack as an act of terrorism and retaliated by bombing Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, specifically the country's power grid during the winter. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) claimed responsibility for the attack.
