On Wednesday, just before reversing course and announcing the agreement, Trump rejected the option of using military force to seize Greenland. Without evidence, Trump claimed that NATO troops had been "a little bit off the front lines" in the Afghan conflict. This sparked outrage among some US allies who lost more than 1,000 soldiers in the war. "What we've gotten from NATO is nothing," said a large number of European soldiers who served extensively in Afghanistan and the Middle East.
