BRICS 2025 Meeting

The XVII BRICS Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 6 and 7, 2025, representing a pivotal moment for the bloc of emerging countries. The summit represents a strategic move toward a parallel financial architecture and political coordination of the Global South. Purpose and Main Objectives The summit aimed to strengthen economic, political, and social cooperation among its members, as well as increase the influence of countries in the Global South in international governance. Brazil established six strategic priorities: global cooperation in healthcare; trade, investment, and finance; climate change; governance for artificial intelligence; peacebuilding and security; and institutional development. Representing half of the world's population and nearly 40% of global GDP, this forum aims to consolidate an alternative to the G7. The Rio Declaration underscores the BRICS' intention to go beyond a platform for economic coordination to become a significant force in global geopolitics.
