Black Friday:
By the mid-20th century, it had begun to refer to absenteeism from work in the United States following the Thanksgiving holiday. Philadelphia police also used the term "Black Friday" to refer to the massive influx of people into the city due to shopping. In the 1980s, retailers transformed the concept in a favorable way: it was when they began to see profits from an accounting perspective, meaning their finances moved from negative to positive numbers. Later, it became a term synonymous with huge discounts and crowds rushing to find deals in the United States. Cyber Monday, a more recently coined term to encourage online shopping on the Monday after Black Friday, continued this trend. Cyber Monday, a more recent term created to promote online shopping on the Monday following Black Friday, did the same. Thanks in large part to the internet, Black Friday has since spread to other countries and continents around the world.
